Pennsylvania ranks 8th in cooking related fires on Thanksgiving according to newly released data from a leading nationwide insurance provider.
The National Fire Protection Association also discourages the use of outdoor gas-fueled turkey fryers that immerse the turkey in hot oil and say the use of turkey fryers by consumers can lead to devastating burns, other injuries and the destruction of property.
It's estimated that deep-fryer accidents cause approximately $15 million dollars in property damage each year.
Overall the NFPA encourages everyone to follow a few safety tips when cooking Thanksgiving-day meals including staying in the kitchen when you are cooking, keeping children away from the stove and making sure your smoke alarms are in good working order.
