A statement released to Altoona Regional Health system employees on Tuesday says the hospital’s board of directors and its parent corporation have voted to pursue detailed discussions with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Altoona Regional nurses, technicians, and other employees have launched a petition drive on the internet in an effort to have the affiliation discussions be an open process.
 
Negotiations could go as long as a year.
