ACT 47 Plan Up For Vote

Tonight Altoona City Council will vote on the Act 47 recovery plan.

If adopted, the distressed city will have a balanced budget made possible by higher taxes, and tweaks in the city workforce.

Should council reject the plan, the city would have to come up with an alternative and with all the complications involved in that scenario, Altoona could find itself in state receivership.

There does however, seem to be enough support for the plan to get it passed, even if the support is being grudgingly given.

In addition to council being under the gun to approve the plan, City Manager Joe Weakland must also issue an order implementing the plan.

We’ll have continuing coverage of this story tomorrow.
