Starting today, Penn State Altoona will present five days of events in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr..
The theme for the series is "Living King's Legacy: Making a Career of Humanity."
In addition to the scheduled events, the celebratory week will include a written and video essay competition.
The events will kick off with the college's annual MLK Reflection Lunch from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the Gymnasium of the Alder Athletic Complex.
There will be a Literary Reception at 4 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge of the Slep Student Center. Students will share excerpts from MLK essays and video submissions.
An Interfaith Prayer service will be held Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Edith Davis Eve Chapel.
A theatrical production "The Meeting" will take place on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Pond View Lounge of the Slep Student Center.
A Day of Service is planned for Thursday, offering students and community members several opportunities to get involved on a campus, local, and global level and make a difference.
MLK Week will wrap up on Friday with a Campus Climate Breakfast Forum at 10:00 a.m. in the Mountain View Room of the Port Sky Cafe. Participants will discuss campus climate as it relates to interpersonal, academic, and professional interactions. Topics to be discussed include issues of diversity, discrimination, and advocacy in small group facilitated discussions.
