Altoona Hotel Destroyed By Fire

A fire destroyed at local business overnight in Altoona.

The Blair County 911 center tells WRTA News that the call came in around 2AM sending all city fire departments to 3830 5th Avenue.  That’s where the Altoona Hotel was completely engulfed in flames when crews arrived on scene.  After initially entering the building, firefighters had to be quickly pulled out due to the advanced stage of the blaze.

The extreme cold also presented a very challenging scenario for firefighters who encountered frozen surfaces all over site as the water from the hoses would freeze on contact.  There were also issues with frozen hoses and one frozen hydrant.

No serious injuries were reported.

We’ll have more on this story as information becomes available.

I would've just posted this on Facebook, but Facebook doesn't allow you to post GIFs (like this little animation). Maybe the $1.1 BILLION price tag isn't so crazy?
