High Speed Chase In Altoona Ends In Crash

A local man was injured late last night after crashing his vehicle while trying to avoid a traffic stop.

Altoona police tell WRTA News that around 11pm an officer was pursuing the vehicle which initially slowed down only to speed away and blow through a red light at the intersection of 7th Avenue and Union Avenue.

After pursuing the vehicle for only 23 seconds the officer stopped the chase because of safety concerns due to the extreme high speeds the vehicle was reaching.

The 36 year old driver eventually crashed at 7th Avenue and 31st Street. He was transported to the hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

No name has been released at this point but the driver is facing DUI charges.
