Two Die in City Crash

A husband and wife in their 80s were killed in a two-vehicle crash late Monday afternoon in Altoona.

City police tell WRTA News that the accident happened around 4:00 at Union Avenue and 31st Street when the couple’s car collided with a truck. According to police, witnesses say the elderly man driving the car was traveling at a high rate of speed as it approached the intersection. The car failed to stop at the stop sign, went into the intersection and crashed into the passenger side of the pick-up truck occupied by two males. This impact forced both vehicles across the street and into a concrete barrier.

The man and woman in the car died at the scene while the driver and passenger of the pickup were transported to Altoona regional where they were admitted for treatment of non-life ‘threatening injuries.

The Blair County Coroner’s Office has not released the names of the victims. The investigation into the accident continues with an Accident Reconstructionist being assigned to this case.
