The incident happened a little after 11:00 at Lorinco’s Market located at 2900 Maple Avenue. City police say Joshua Guido walked into the store wearing a hoodie, a red bandana and sunglasses and pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the clerk and demanded money. Police say that when Guido hit the cash register to open it, the money fell to the floor and that’s when the cashier and a customer wrestled Guido to the ground. The cashier grabbed the gun and Guido was held at the store until police arrived on scene. The scuffle resulted in minor injuries for the customer.
Guido is facing robbery, assault and related charges.
In light of how this incident was resolved the Altoona Police Department wants to remind the public it never recommends private citizens confront an armed suspect.
