AFD Reaches 100% Qualification Standards

The Altoona City Fire Department has been given a top honor by the State’s highest-ranking fire official.

Chief Tim Hileman says his department’s relentless training on the latest firefighting techniques has resulted in Commissioner Ed Mann announcing that 100-percent of the city’s firefighters have now met National Profession Qualification Standards.

Hileman says the ranking will also help the department when it seeks state and federal support dollars.

Each of the city’s firefighters spends more than 600 hours per year attending classes and participating in training exercises.
