Former Pennsylvania environmental protection secretary Kathleen McGinty says she's seriously considering running for governor.
McGinty told The Associated Press on Tuesday she'll take a leave from her job as an executive with West Chester-based Weston Solutions to concentrate full-time on the prospective campaign. The 49-year-old Democrat has filed papers to form a political action committee called "New Jobs, Bright Future PA" so she can raise money.
That was first reported the online news agency PoliticsPA. McGinty, who headed the Department of Environmental Protection for five years under Governor Ed Rendell, joins more than half-dozen other Democrats who are considering running or already in the race.
The Delaware County resident calls herself "a centrist, pro-jobs, pro-growth, and pro-environment" candidate. She says she's considering running because she's "intensely passionate about Pennsylvania's future."
