AASD to 'Grandfather' Current Boundary Letters

Students attending Altoona elementary schools on boundary letters will get to stay in place.
School board members voted Monday night to ‘grandfather-in’ students who live in one area of the city but attend school in another. District officials say current letters will state in place until the last group finishes 6th grade.
Board president Ryan Beers say the district will not issue any additional boundary letters under any circumstances.
District officials had planed to terminate all boundary letters starting next year in order to balance classroom sizes with the possibly closure of two school buildings. But outcry from parents forced the board to reexamine the issue.
