ATF Joins Investigation into Altoona Hotel Blaze

Federal authorities have now joined the investigation into the fire that destroyed the historic Altoona Hotel.
The city fire department and the owner’s insurance company requested the feds be brought in. Altoona’s fire inspector has not been able to determine a cause of the blaze.
Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have spent the past two days combing through the rubble of the burned out building.
Flames gutted the building during the early morning hours of January 22nd. At the time, officials said they believed the fire started in the kitchen area and it wasn’t believed to be suspicious.
The city says the building can’t be demolished until the investigation has concluded.
