Search Finally Ends For Missing Altoona Woman

It’s over.

The search for Sherry Leighty has ended as her remains have been discovered.

Huntingdon County District Attorney George Zanic delivered the news this morning at a press conference.

The Altoona woman had vanished in 1999. Recently an intensive search for Leighty centered on 150 acres in Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County.  Leighty's ex-father-in-law, 65 year old Kenneth Leighty allegedly told his son that he had accidentally killed the 23-year-old mother of three and buried her on the family's hunting property.

We’ll have more on this story as information becomes available.
