There was drama in a Blair County courtroom Monday morning when a convicted killer on death row punched his attorney in the face.
The incident happened at the conclusion of a motions hearing for Andre Staton.
The former Baltimore man raised his arms – while handcuffed – and struck attorney Tim Burns of Ebensburg in the face. Burns was taken from the courtroom on a stretcher. He was released from the hospital Monday afternoon and is expected to be okay. Earlier in the hearing Staton told Judge Elizabeth Doyle he’s ready to be executed.
A Blair County jury convicted Staton of killing his estranged girlfriend Beverly Yohn in 2004. Staton will be charged with assault for the attack.
