Sheetz Store Evacuated

An Altoona convenience store was evacuated Monday after a suspicious package was found outside the business.
Officers responded to the Sheetz store at 17th Street and Pleasant Valley Boulevard just after 4:00PM. City police say a patron found a metal briefcase that had been left outside of the restaurant side of the business. Police asked the store’s customers to leave until the package was examined.
Investigators were able to move the package away from the building and eventually deemed it to be safe. The briefcase belonged to an employee of a Pittsburgh car dealership – that employee accidentally left it outside the store during a conversation with a client.

The store reopened a short time later. Police don’t plan to file any charges.
