A Blair County death row inmate has now been charged with attacking his attorney last week in court.
State Police on Wednesday filed a single count offense of assault by a prisoner against Andre Staton. If convicted, Staton could be sentenced to life behind bars on that charge alone. Officials say it’s the first time the prisoner assault charge has been used in Blair County.
Staton is accused of brutally striking his attorney Tim Burns during a May 13th hearing in front of Judge Elizabeth Doyle. Staton, while handcuffed, swung his hands at Burns, hitting him in face and knocking him to the floor.
A judge sentenced Staton to death following the first-degree murder conviction for the 2004 death of his former girlfriend Beverly Yohn.
