Memorial Day Ceremony Remembers Fallen Veteran's

A Memorial Day ceremony on Monday in Downtown Altoona took on a special meaning for the families of some fallen soldiers from our area.
The veteran’s plaques on the Laws Plaza Memorial now include the names of the nine men who gave their life serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. A bell tolled nine times to mark the occasion. Their names were added the names of dozens of other local veterans who have given the ultimate sacrifice since the beginning of World War I.
Army Specialist Duane Hollen Junior, U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Matt Ingham, Gunnery Sergeant Ronald Baum, Army Specialist Michael Hook, Army Sergeant Brandon Adams, Army PFC Larry Parks, Air Force Major Duane Dively, Navy Petty Officer Robert Jenkins, Army Specialist Chad Edmundson, and Army Sergeant Dan Lightner were among those to be honored.
