Dem Governor Hopeful John Hanger Advance $8-Billion Jobs Plan
Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Hanger is touting a plan that he says will create more than 380,000 jobs in Pennsylvania.
The plan Hanger released Wednesday would be financed with more than $8-billion a year financed largely through new taxes and borrowing. The former state environmental protection secretary says 215,000 jobs could be created by boosting funding for public schools and technical education, accepting the largely federally funded Medicaid expansion, making major investments in transportation and upgrading sewer and water systems.
Other proposals include the more aggressive use of renewable energy and an expansion of the Growing Greener initiative to clean up the environment. To help pay for it all, Hanger is proposing new state borrowing and new taxes on such things as natural-gas drilling, smokeless tobacco and gasoline.
