AAHS Teachers and Students Participate in Toona Tuneup
On Thursday more than 400 Altoona Area High School students in grades 10 through12 along with 38 teachers will volunteer nearly a combined 3,000 hours to help “Tuneup” Altoona city and Logan Township parks and streets.
Students and teachers will be painting, pulling weeds, picking up trash at 22 locations throughout the area as a way to give back to the community and make the city and township a cleaner place to live.
AAHS teachers Tom Palfey and Robin DeShong coordinated the effort with Central Blair Recreation Commission. Toona Tuneup will take place at the following locations: The Ravine; Garfield Park; Leopold Park; Highland Park; Newburg Park; Locust Hill Park; Focus Park; Veteran’s Field; Juniata Memorial Park; Hamilton Park; Iuzzolina Park; Tuckahoe Park; Geesey Park; Greenwood Park; Prospect Pool/Park; Downtown Altoona Area; 18th St. from UVA to 20th Ave.; 6th Ave. from 17th St. to 24th St.; 7th Ave. from 10th St. to 4th St.; 6th Ave. from 10th St. to 4th St.; 6th Ave. from 10th St. to 14th St.; and the cemetery near the Bavarian Hall.
