Paterno Family Lawyer: Corbett Suit has Different Claims
The lawyer for the late Joe Paterno's family says the family's lawsuit against the NCAA has significantly different claims and theories from the lawsuit from Pennsylvania's governor thrown out in federal court.
A judge on Thursday called Governor Tom Corbett's antitrust lawsuit to overturn the NCAA sanctions against Penn State a "Hail Mary pass" that warranted dismissal.
Penalties were levied for the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. Paterno's family was joined last week by others tied to Penn State in a separate legal challenge of the sanctions. That lawsuit criticizes the NCAA's use of former FBI director Louis Freeh's scathing findings to punish school.
Paterno family attorney Wick Sollers says a main goal is "to know the truth so that future crimes of this type can be prevented."
