Officials: PennDOT to Remove Chopped Trees Along Broad Avenue

Altoona City officials say PennDOT will remove most of the trees along Broad Avenue that were improperly pruned ahead of an upcoming paving project.
An arborist says most of the trees between 24th and 31st Streets were trimmed incorrectly and the damage is irreversible.

Mayor Bill Schirf says a meeting on Wednesday proved to be productive.

Schirf says the situation could even lead to a more expansive streetscape project if funding can be found to pay for new sidewalks, curbs and street lights. He says the city will hold a public hearing for Broad Avenue residents to get their input.
