AASD Adopts 2013-14 Budget

The Altoona Area School District has approved a balanced budget for the 2013-14 school year.
Board members on Monday adopted a $92.6-million spending plan that does not include any new taxes. Total spending has fallen since the first budget was adopted in May to reflect the savings forthcoming from the closure of Wright and Washington Jefferson Elementary Schools.
The district will borrow from its reserve fund account to make up the revenue shortfall. Officials say raising property taxes to the state index would have only generated about $600-thousand in new revenue.
