A former Altoona Area School board member says the allegations that former superintendent Dr. Dennis Murray gave illegal pay raises doesn’t make sense to her.
Margaret “Ticky” Hendricks tells WRTA News that she doesn’t think the findings released Monday in the State Auditor General’s report should fall directly on Murray’s shoulders. Hendricks was a board member when several of the raises occurred. She accepts responsibility for not setting Murray’s salary as required by his contract year after year.
But she contends nothing improper happened behind the scenes. Hendricks says she still feels current board president Ryan Beers had an ax to grind. And she says the only reasons several new people ran for the board was to “target Murray” and “take him down.”
Beers says the two investigations are clear about the facts and that Hendricks is sorely mistaken in her recollection of how things took place.
