The American Red Cross 25th Annual Blair Blood Blitz is being held today.
You have a chance to help save a life by donating blood from 8 am to 8 pm at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona.
Everyone who comes into donate will receive an American Red Cross logo item (lunch tote or water bottle) and valuable coupons for local businesses.
Blood donations often decline during the summer, when schools are out and people are away on vacations. The Red Cross encourages donors to make an appointment to give now to help ensure a stable supply in the weeks and months ahead, giving patients a chance to create a summer of stories.
Eligible donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative blood are especially encouraged to donate and give double red cells where available. Type O negative is the universal blood type and can be transfused to anyone who needs blood. Types A negative and B negative can be transfused to Rh positive or negative patients.
