Looking for a 40-building complex on 450-plus acres in Cambria County? If so, the state has a closed prison to sell you.
SCI Cresson – which was officially closed June 30th – is now among a group of 37 surplus state properties listed for sale. Department of General Services spokesman Troy Thompson said Thursday that a fair market value for the prisons - and thus acceptable amounts for bids - must still be determined through an appraisal
Thompson says the state will be aggressive in its marketing to sell-off the facility, because it will cost nearly $2-million per-year just to maintain the site. Officials say are hopeful the property will attract large interest because of its location directly off a major Pennsylvania highway.
