The case of the Bellefonte man who had accused Logan Township police of roughing him up almost five years ago has come to an end.
43 year old David Rainelli, Jr. walked out of Blair County court Monday fined $100 for harassment.
The story dates back to October of 2008 when Logan Township police were called to the Van Zandt VA Medical Center in response to Rainelli allegedly being drunk there. He was then accused of resisting the police. Rainelli claimed that when he was transported to the Blair County Prison he suffered serious injuries as a result of police hitting and kicking him.
Rainelli pleaded to simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness as a result of the incident at the hospital and was sentenced to a $50 fine and a year's probation. His case against the police however continued as he brought in the FBI and State Police. Logan Township Police Chief Ron Heller also investigated the claims against the officers and he himself called in the state police to investigate.
After several twists and turns through the years the case is now over with no charges being filed against the police and no civil action will be sought by either side.
