City Police PFA Insurance Scam Charge Investigation Underway
An internal investigation is underway by the Altoona Police department into a woman's claim that she was advised by one of their officers to file a protection-from-abuse complaint to support an insurance claim for a damaged door.
Back on August 1st Jamey Keith of Altoona made the claim in Blair County Court during a PFA hearing. Keith wanted to withdraw her complaint against her boyfriend. Originally Keith had said her boyfriend had damaged the door and she and her children were afraid of him.
The situation was referred to Blair County President Judge Jolene Kopriva, who then made sure a transcript of the hearing was forwarded to Altoona Police Chief Janice Freehling. That led to the internal investigation.
The Altoona Police Department commented last week that the officers involved in the case did not mention insurance to the woman but did attempt to help her obtain a PFA.
