State's First UC Amnesty Program Down to Final Month

The Department of Labor & Industry is reminding Pennsylvanians that the unemployment compensation (UC) amnesty program aimed at recouping monies owed to the state’s UC fund is in its final month.
The UC Amnesty Program, the first of its kind in the state, began June 1 and runs through the end of August. Claimants who have received more UC benefits than they were entitled to and employers who have not made mandatory tax contributions to the UC Trust Fund have until midnight Aug. 31 to make it right.
Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Julia Hearthway says claimants and employers who have not paid their obligation by the deadline will incur additional financial penalties and could face
legal action including lien filings and criminal prosecution.
The UC Amnesty Program offers claimants and employers amnesty to repay what they owe at a discount. The amnesty program is being offered to provide those who owe an opportunity to do the right thing and receive a discount on the amount due.
The program was enacted to help keep the UC Trust Fund solvent and available for those who need and deserve benefits. The department has no intentions at this time to extend or repeat the program.
More than 130,000 individual claimants and nearly 50,000 employers received letters advising them of the amnesty program, reminding them of how much they owe and instructing them on how to pay it back.
Claimants and employers who owe the UC fund can access the amnesty program website,, where they can find out more about the program and be connected to an online payment portal.
