Firefighters Get Forestry Grant

Several volunteer fire companies in Blair County will share nearly $15,000 to help guard against the threat of forest fires.
The money is being made available through the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The grants will be used to purchase wildfire-suppression equipment and protective clothing.
The Claysburg, Freedom Township, Friendship, Duncansville and Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Departments will each share the money. The Gallitzin Warden and Crew Association based in Duncansville will also be getting $1,000.
More than $505,000 in grants are being awarded statewide to rural communities to help guard against the threat of fires in forests and other undeveloped areas.
