Man Accused of "Ride-By" Robbery Identified

We have an update on a mugging that occurred earlier this month in Altoona.
Late last week city police arrested 21 year old Victor Lee Werkheiser, of 1814 14th Avenue Altoona, in connection with the incident that happened August 1st on the 1200 block of the 7th Avenue alley.
According to police, Werkheiser, who was riding a BMX style bicycle, rode past a woman who had just left the Investment Savings Bank at 1201 8th Avenue. Police say he grabbed an envelope containing $200 from the woman and fled the scene but left behind one of his sneakers.
Werkheiser was picked out of a photo lineup by a witness and later confessed to the crime. He’s facing felony robbery and misdemeanor theft charges.
A preliminary hearing has been set for next Wednesday.
