A crash Wednesday morning involving a milk tanker caused a hazmat situation in Northern Bedford County.
State Police say a tanker carrying thousands of gallons of milk overturned on Sproul Mountain Road, injuring the driver and closing the roadway for hours. Troopers say the driver lost control of the rig on the narrow roadway, causing it to go over the embankment. Emergency officials worked to extricate the driver and to begin cleaning up the spilled product.
Bedford County EMA officials say they wanted to make sure the milk didn’t make its way into nearby streams. A trucking company representative says another tanker was set to the scene to help remove and contain the mile. The driver’s name hasn’t been released and the accident remains under investigation.
