The charges have escalated against an Altoona man connected to an assault of another man a week ago.
23 year old Joshua Shannon was originally facing a lesser charge of criminal attempt homicide. On Thursday the charges were bumped up to Attempted Murder.
According to police, on August 29th Shannon went to Coupon looking to kill Mervin Lee Sollenberger. Originally police thought Sollenberger was only severely beaten up but it was later discovered that he had also been shot twice.
Court files show that Shannon had lured Sollenberger into a trap by asking for help with a truck that was stuck. When Sollenberger came back home covered in blood he told his wife that Shannon had set him up.
The criminal complaint against Shannon also seems to point to the incident being connected to Sollenberger giving information to police.
Other charges against Shannon include aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and harassment.
