The Altoona Blair County Development Corporation is getting a $1.5-million grant do develop a new business park near Sproul.
The money will be used to construct a water main, fire hydrants, an 8-inch sewer main, storm detention system plus roadways and curbing. Officials say they hope the new business park will attract $40-million in new investments and lead to a few hundred new jobs.
The money was secured through the Federal Economic Development Administration. The money will also pay for the ABCD Corporation to acquire the 142-acre nearby Claar farm. Officials say the property is located next to the Walter Business Park and 80 acres is developable.
ABCD officials say the new park is necessary because Blair County has a limited number of shovel-ready properties
