The Altoona Area school board voted Monday not to hire another security greeter – going against a recommendation made by the district’s administration.
The 5-2 vote means former Altoona Police officer Frank Shields will remain in his part-time position as an outside police officer. Board president Ryan Beers tells WRTA News that there were behind the scenes concerns that more may have been promised than just putting Shields in the position as a security greeter.
Sources say Shields was informed by some in the administration that taking a greeter’s position would eventually allow him to be elevated into a chief or assistant chief’s position.
