A longtime Blair County judge has been laid to rest.
Family, friends and colleagues gathered Wednesday at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament to pay their final farewells to the late Judge Thomas People’s Junior. The 78-year-old former county president judge died last Thursday after suddenly falling ill.
More than 300 people attended the morning service, which was conducted by Altoona-Johnstown Catholic Diocese Bishop Mark Bartchak. Judges Dan Milliron and Tim Sullivan served as pall bearers.
Peoples was remembered as a caring judge who was strict on criminals and protective of those who fell victim to a crime.
Peoples first served Blair County as a district attorney before being elected to the bench in 1980.
