The Blair County Commissioners have voted to support making the former Bon Secour Hospital site part of a Keystone Opportunity Zone in an effort to encourage business development.
The KOZ designation passed unanimously at the Commissioner’s Tuesday meeting in Hollidaysburg. Commissioner Terry Tomassetti says while the KOZ designated properties don’t help the county financially, the long-term benefit will payoff.
The KOZ designation is good for ten years. County officials say the KOZ agreement should not hurt the Payment in Lieu of Taxes agreement the county already has in place with UPMC Altoona, which owns the 13 acre parcel.
