Ex-PA Auditor to Fight Law-License Suspension

Former state Auditor General Don Bailey says he'll go to federal court to fight a five-year suspension of his law license.

The state Supreme Court ordered the suspension because it says he violated the rules of professional conduct by making false statements critical of several federal judges in Pennsylvania.

Bailey said Thursday he's being unfairly punished for exercising his First Amendment right to free speech. He says the rules that restrict what lawyers may say about the courts are unconstitutional.

Bailey, a Vietnam War veteran, was Pennsylvania's elected auditor general from 1985 to 1989. The 68-year-old Harrisburg lawyer also served two terms as the congressman of a western Pennsylvania district, from 1979 to 1983.
