PSU: Sandusky Scandal tops $50-Million

Penn State has spent more than $50-million in legal and consulting fees as a result of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
The latest online update shows the university spent $50.4-million through July 31st – a $1.025-million increase over June. More than three dozen firms submitted invoices for payment. Records show $570-thousand was spent on legal bills alone.
Many of the costs were associated with the university’s defense of former president Graham Spanier, ex-athletic director Tim Curley and retired vice-president Gary Schultz. The three are currently awaiting trial for their role in the scandal.
Some legal analysts predict Penn State’s total bill for the scandal could top $150-million when the NCAA’s $60-million fine and victim settlements are added in.
