City Wants Sidewalks Included In Upcoming PennDot Project

Pedestrian safety is an issue Altoona City Council would like to see addressed by PennDot.

Council voted unanimously last night in favor of petitioning PennDot to add sidewalks to the intersection at 17th street and Pleasant Valley Boulevard in the upcoming widening and improvement project for that area.

Back in 2008 a teenager was killed trying to cross that section of roadway.

Issues PennDot officials are looking at concerning the project include how safe would it be for people to cross multiple lanes, motorists would have to deal with extended red light phases and  the lack of connecting sidewalks
