Pennsylvania State Police will cut around-the-clock security for the wife of Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley because it was costing more to protect her than him.
The Cawleys requested the move after the cost disparity became apparent in recent months as she resumed her work as a New York City real-estate agent, which required her to spend days at a time out of state.
State police racked up $81,000 in travel expenses to protect Cawley between July and September — $21,000 more than it cost to protect her husband.
State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan says that the Cawleys asked troopers in the executive detail last month to stop accompanying her to New York.
