Altoona Water Authority Says Hollidaysburg Water Supply Receives "Vague Threat"; Some Customers Asked NOT To Drink Water (Click for Story and Map)



The Altoona Water Authroity recieved what it termed a "vague threat" concering the Hollidaysburg water supply late Friday.  The Authority's statement from their website:

"DRINKING WATER WARNING - DO NOT DRINK OR CONSUME THE WATER -
 
The Altoona Water Authority has received a vague threat that may affect the Hollidaysburg Water supply system. Out of an abundance of caution, we are notifying our customers of this threat. Although there is no clear sign of contamination, we are recommending that you do not consume the water. 
 
This notice is for Altoona Water Authority customers in the Foot of Ten and William Penn Highway (old Route 22) areas. It also affects Hollidaysburg, Freedom, and Blair Township water customers. It does NOT affect Duncansville Borough water customers. 
 
What should I do? 
 
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER FROM YOUR TAP.
You should utilize bottled water until we are certain that the water system is safe from contamination. Alternate source water or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. 
 
What happened? What is being done? 
 
In response to the threat, the Altoona Water Authority has taken precautionary actions. Field and laboratory testing is being conducted. 
 
Again, we will notify you when you may resume consuming water from our system."
