Drug Take Back Initiative A Sucess

The numbers are in and State Police are calling last Saturday’ Drug Take Back Program a success.

The initiative’s aim is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal of medications.

Officials say that flushing medications contribute to water pollution and poses serious health risks water supplies and fish habitats.

Disposing of medications in the trash causes groundwater contamination and leads to dumpster diving by individuals looking for the drugs.

Last Saturday troopers collected 691 pounds of prescription medications in six counties.  Troop G in Hollidaysburg alone collected 302 pounds.
