County Commissioners Hope To Hold The Line On Real Estate Taxes

Because Blair County has enough money in reserve to cover a projected deficit for 2014 there will probably be no real estate tax increase for next year.

County commissioners on Thursday said the first look at the budget reveals a shortfall of $1.7 million but they’ll try not to raise real estate taxes. They will however need to find ways to whittle down the deficit.

Preliminary numbers put the county's 2014 expenditures estimates at almost $44.5 million with $6.2 million in an unreserved fund balance.

A tentative budget will be introduced on November 12.
